Pre-print Preparation
Even on small card fit up to 36 frames in and it is possible to create animated sequence of 1-2.5 second. With vertical lenses it is better to confine to three frames. Morph works the best with 7 to 20 frames. 3D appeals best with at least seven divided perspectives and if the machine allows, 20 are recommended.
More frames means more complicated preparation, slower work and larger files.
The smallest size in relatively good quality is 12 cm2. When a picture is too small fine lines start to break beneath the lens.
The narrower is frame the less clear is image. It is vulnerable to fuzzy images (cross-fade of neighbouring strips) which is not a big problem with animation but unsuitable with different motives.
This „Ghost effect“ is caused by i.a. wrong register, discordance of lens pitch with print resolution, too high colour contrast or too much pictures.
The bigger distance of a viewer, the thicker foil is needed. Approximate correlation is: up to 60cm = 85-200 lpi, up to 180cm = 6-10 lpi.
Too fine lenses give image without details from long-distance view. Conversely big span in small images distorts it due to excesive thickness of the plastic.
The wider is angle of sight, the slower is the effect.
The best 3D lenses have relatively narrow the angle, usually below 30°.
The best animation lenses have the angle wider than 40°.
Between 30° and 40° are universal fols. Pitch and angle has no influence on each other, they are produced in varying combinations according to needs.
