Recent technical progress raised creation of lenticular images to DTP, so it is possible to make them even at home or order it for reasonable price. Digital devices could more popularized it (e.g. thanks to sequence mode of shooting).
All pictures must have same size and resolution, min 300 dpi, before beginning the work.
The most important phaze of production is interlacing of strips „cutted“ from particular images into desired sequence (in case of three frames in order 123 123 etc).
Special software makes it and saves ready to print file. Size of final file of 1-4 GB depending on format and aimed resolution is not exception. For making lenticular patterns is thus recommended min. 1 GB RAM and 1.7 GHz or faster processor.
Subsidiary software count perhaps angles for shooting 3D.
Important utility is so called pitch test. Even though materials are characterizied by lpi the exact number of lenses usualy slightly varies also resolution of output device is not exact. E.g. with 15 lpi is pitch often 14.98 lpi and this is discovered by pitch test print and its adding to foil. When number of printed pixels per inch is not exact multiply of resolution of output device an effect of „optical banding“ shows up.

TYPES OF SOFTWARE

Input images for animation can come from programs like Photoshop, Quark, Illustrator, InDesign, ArtPro (best with each motive in one layer).

3D images are generated either in computer or by shooting real object from different angles with special multi-lens camera or stepping camera. There is number of programs but most of them are expensive for home use.

Program SuperFlip from FlipSigns for Windows 95/98/NT is for free and can make animation and 3D.
Free for home users is also program 3DZ EXtreme V6 Standard from Digi-Art for Windows XP (limited options). It makes 3D effects and animation but only for 62 lpi, RGB line in and out, max. 10 frames and format up to 13.5cm. Upgraded versions 3DZ V6 plus, 3DZ EXtreme V7 Advance and 3DZ EXtreme V7 pro process sizes more than 10 x 10 m, pitch 1-1000 lpi, CMYK tif input, RGB and CMYK tif out, eps, pdf.

Software PhotoProjector from 3D Mix for Windows, PhotoProjector Plus for bigger formats. Lenticular F/X from
Lenticular Image LLC for Windows 95/98/2000/ME/NT from files tif, jpeg, bmp or gif makes output in tif for photographic and ink printers.

ProMagic produce program for Windows in gradateing versions Magic Interlacer Pro100, Pro50 (up to 40 x 60 cm, RGB only) and Lite (up to 20 x 25cm, RGB only).

Program Power Illusion from Photo Illusion for Mac OSX and Windows XP. HumanEyes supplies PrintPro 3D for Mac OS 9 and OSX and also scripts for Photoshop.

Lenticular PC Professiona can 100% retain Photoshop build-in effects and filters, create animation and 3D effects up to 30 000 x 30 000 px format and provide output for ink-jet and offset print.

Lenticular Effects 3.0 from Imagiam High Image tech is professional software for 3D and animation and their quality combination for Windows PC and Apple Mac OSX. It is compatible with tif, jpeg and psd in RGB, CMYK and grey scale. It does not limit number of frames, layers, pitch or format of input images.
